Iain Atkins reaction
Sheffieldfansderby.co.uk
met up with event organiser and Sheffield Wednesday fans
manager Iain Atkins to get his reaction to everything
SFD and the events which unfolded on the night at Bramall
Lane.
“The event ran smoothly with all parties enjoying
the occasion and getting behind the great charity (Amy’s
Retreat) to maximise its potential in bringing in the
highest possible amount of funds. We don’t know
the total amount raised yet but we are confident that
this event could see us raise the highest amount of money
for a single charity in the SFD’s history.”
“It was brilliant for the players, officials and
all involved to be able to play in front of such a large
crowd at a professional football stadium, a chance which
is not often available to the public. The crowd were brilliant
and created a fantastic atmosphere which was something
that I have not personally experienced before and will
never forget. It was the highest attendance we have seen
at the SFD with around 300 people watching the game.”
"Many of us have been to Bramall Lane to see the
Steel City derby where our heroes have played and it was
brilliant to follow in their footsteps and get the professional
treatment.”
“In terms of the scoreline for the Sheffield Wednesday
fans, it was brilliant. Winning five, nil in any game,
anywhere is great but to do it in your arch rivals back
yard is a feeling that you can’t describe and something
I will never forget. The players pulled together, played
as a team, for the team. We talked about getting an early
lead in the pre-match team talk and it was great to see
us get it and I think that settled the nerves of the players
and pushed us on to win.”
“The first goal came from a corner which Mat managed
to float right onto the top of Richards head. He powered
it past the goalkeeper who could only get a hand on it.
The second was a penalty which Aaron took well with enough
power to score despite the goalkeeper getting a hand to
it.”
“Dale took the next with a well struck free-kick
which looped over the top of the goalkeeper in the left
hand corner. He followed this with a great volley for
the fourth. The final goal came from Danny who cut inside
the box and put the ball into the corner past the helpless
United goalkeeper.”
“We had the chance to score more but missed chances
which on another day would have found the back of the
net. Defensively we were sound and anything which found
itself go through the defence was soon stopped by Neil
Tilbrook who had an outstanding game and deserved the
clean sheet. The goals which we scored were all well structured
and clinically taken chances. I felt we were the better
team on the night and deserved the well fought victory.”
